Abstract The TiC-Mo₂C-Ni hard metals were prepared by infiltrating Ni infiltrant into porous skeletons of carbides, and microstructures and mechanical properties of the specimens were compared to those of conventionally sintered specimens. The density of residual porosity was decreased and formation of large grains could be inhibited by utilizing the infiltration technique. The infiltrated specimens showed higher transverse rupture strength than conventionally sintered specimens. The maximum value of transverse rupture strength was obtained when mole fractions of Ni and Mo₂C were the same.
