Abstract The Microstructural study was made to understand the very complicated microstructures evolved during the heat treatment of cast Ti-Al binary alloys containing 44 and 48at.%Al, respectively. Non-equilibrium cast structures of the two alloys were heated at (α+γ) two phase region and furnace cooled to room temperature to obtain equilibrium structure and water cooled to understand the decomposition process of lamellar structures. Cast structures were also heated to α single phase region and then cooled to (α+γ) two phase region to see the two phase decomposition process. Lamellar formation process at different cooling rates was observed and discussed in connection with phase diagram.
